One of the biggest complaints people had on here is that it is not "live streaming" when it is off its docking station. Now, I do have to agree that Sirius customer support is very weak. I also got the home dock and not the car dock. Gee, I wish I had bought this sooner so I could set some people straight. The s50 will load itself up with programming from your favorite stations so that when you take it with you, it will be full of whatever you like to listen to.I believe that most of the complaints about the features of this product are based upon poor research before purchase. If they did not read the product manual, once again, it is not the product's fault.
This is actually an RIAA restriction and you can set the S50 to record 2 hours back to back for a total of 4 hours worth of recording.
Well, it is not the S50's fault they did not fully read the product description.
Something I did not see mentioned in all the negative reviews is the functions that the S50 were really designed for.
Being that I bought this 4 years after its initial release, I paid only $52 plus tax direct from Sirius due to a discount.
But once again.not the product's fault.
They simply bought something that did not suit their needs and you can not blame the product for that.
Second, there were a lot of complaints that you can only record 2 hours worth of programming.
That is automatically recoding your favorite music or shows while it charges in its dock.
I just wish there was a reputable company out there that would produce a decent product. I now have to listen to sirius radio on the internet through my computer. I have purchased 2 S-50's, 2 other Sirius radios complete with home kits and been given 1 by friends who were done with Sirius. i also understand if they did that they would be out of business because no one would need to buy their product again. All their radios are pieces of junk, designed to breakdown, so you can purchase more of them. I have refused to play this game anymore. Unfortunately the only one who is going to change this is YOU the Consumer. You stop purchasing these pieces of crap and they will have to put quality back in their product to stay in business.We are all guilty of this, I refuse to play this game anymore.
I bought the s50 when it first came out and 2 years later, I'm still in love with it. Then when I get home or on the weekend I hear the shows. I bought it for Howard Stern and I got a good system going. I program it to record the show in 3hr chunks. It would be great if it could listen to a show while I record one. However, that's really my only complaint.
Please do not buy this product it will fail as mine has making it an expensive mp3 player. Sirius tech support will finally tell you you are tol, buy a new radio.If you are a life time subscription holder you will be out the $75.00 transfer fee, new radio, new docking stations. Sirius has no interest in waiving the transfer fee or offering a discount on a comparable radio.Sirius is only out to make a huge buck off you, somebody has to pay Howard.Have an xm player thats been through it and still works fine.I'm now a firm believer in the saying "Sirius Sucks"
So the tech said to return it. The clerk told me they had problems with that model and don't sell it any longer. No luck. So I went through a series of support calls that ended three hours later with Sirius coaching me through an update of the unit's firmware using my computer and a huge software download from Sirius. I was really looking forward to my new S50. You couldn't GIVE me an S50. So I went to Best Buy to get a working version, but they don't carry it. Seems this is a problem item for them.
Its great. Sirius does not warrantee the radio for the first 30 days and will not accept returns during that time. Unfortunately, Sirius could not activate it. I bought the ST4 and had it installed. The box it came had stickers on it that said it could not be returned to the seller (Tiger Direct, via Amazon) which Sirius said violates their agreement with Amazon. But the lady at Tiger Direct allowed us to return it. The sound is excellent and it has all the features I need for alot less money. If I need to carry music with me I will get an Ipod.
